Jamie Redknapp questions why ‘incredible’ Chelsea star isn’t in Xabi Alonso’s side | Football
Jamie Redknapp believes Xabi Alonso must find a way to get Estevao Willian into his Chelsea team this season.
The Blues suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at Brentford on Friday night, continuing their record of conceding at least two goals in each of their five Premier League games this season.
Chelsea’s new-look attack started the season impressively but drew a blank in west London with Joao Pedro ruled out with a knee injury.
Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers have started every game behind the Brazilian with Alonso utilising a three at the back system. Pedro Neto has emerged as the manager’s preferred option at right wing-back with Pep Chavarria and Jorrel Hato sharing duties on the left.

It has left Estevao struggling for game time, managing just 23 minutes of action across four games as a late substitute.
While Palmer and Rogers would appear to be Alonso’s firm first choice options in those two attacking roles, Redknapp suggests he must find a way to get the Brazilian in the team.
‘I look at Estevao, is he too good a player not to play in this team?’ Redknapp told Sky Sports after Chelsea’s defeat to Brentford.
‘He is in an incredible talent but how do you get him in the team when you have got Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro? These are the problems he has to solve.’
Reports earlier this month claimed Estevao has concerns over his role under Alonso and could consider his future in January should his situation not improve.

Chelsea were without their captain Reece James due to injury with Moises Caicedo also ruled out. James has predominantly taken up a midfield role this season with Redknapp also unsure what his long-term role is this season.
‘There are problems, what are the best options for him? Does Reece James fit in as a wing-back or a midfield player?’ Redknapp said.
‘I watch him sometimes and I don’t think he maybe has the energy to get up and down. As a midfielder, I’m not sure if that always suits him I’m not sure if he always sees danger enough at times but he is also captain.’
Chelsea return to action against Bournemouth following the three-week international break.
