Ian Wright names England star who ‘proved his worth’ to Thomas Tuchel in Czechia win
Ian Wright believes Lewis Hall ‘proved his worth’ in Thomas Tuchel’s side after an impressive display in England’s 2-0 win over Czechia on Tuesday.
Goals from Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane saw the Three Lions get back to winning ways and earn their first points in the Nations League group stage.
The hosts made a bright start to the contest, but faced an uphill battle after Pavel Sulc was shown a straight red card after a poor challenge on Elliot Anderson.
And England eventually made their man advantage count in the second half when Gordon delicately headed home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s superb cross for his third goal in three international games.
Kane then added England’s second with a well-taken finish in the 69th minute as Tuchel’s side eased to victory in Prague.
And while Czechia’s early red card turned the game on its head, Wright pinpointed Hall as one player who should emerge with credit in the bank, particularly after he narrowly missed out on Tuchel’s World Cup squad over the summer.
‘Hall coming on the outside of Gordon, a good footballer himself, a good player,’ Wright told ITV.
‘He done well in the second half, could have done better with one of his shots but very, very good going forward and consistently getting in there.
‘It’s just good to see him there because I think he deserved a shot with England. Very unlucky in the World Cup but now he is in and proving his worth.

Roy Keane, meanwhile, added: ‘Do you know what he brought? I love watching players, whatever state the game is in, who bring energy.
‘Every time it came to him you thought something is going to happen here. There’s plenty of energy in there, playing with enthusiasm, and that’s a good start.’
On the performance of Hall and fellow full-back Alexander-Arnold, Tuchel said: ‘Both good. The position in the second half suited Trent more than in the first half. Lewis did excellent on the other side. Well done.
‘Credit to all of them because they deserved and now it is important that we relax and enjoy the evening, do a good recovery and the prepare for Croatia.’
On his side’s performance more generally, the England boss added: ‘We played very professional, second half we stepped up. Kept the intensity going, very professional and the effort was still there. Deserved victory.
‘Strange to get an early red card, not the best for the team and spectators. It’s an awkward one but we kept going, got a win and that’s what counts.’
