Adorable celebrity dog saved after ‘twisted plot to kill him’ gets foiled

The cute dog whose love of collecting plastic bottles has earned him more than 500,000 followers was the target of a twisted murder poison plot, according to the viral pooch’s owner

An adorable dog known for his love of plastic bottles was the target of a sick poisoning plot, according to the pooch’s owner. The French bulldog, named Xiaobai, boasts 500,000 followers across several Chinese social media platforms, where his fans can see him diligently helping his owner Chang recycle bottles found on the street.

However, not everyone is seemingly such a fan of Xiaobai, with the adorable pup allegedly becoming the obsession of a grim animal cruelty site on the dark web. There, sick users reportedly discussed killing the viral dog using a lethal dose of a drug intended to damage his nervous system.

Xiaobai’s owner Chang says it was only because a visitor to the site sent him screenshots of the discussion that he was able to protect his beloved pet, according to the South China Morning Post.

Chang stated: “A well-intentioned Internet user sent me some pictures of an animal abuse group discussing plans to poison Xiaobai.”

“Some group members told me my home address and said they planned to kill the dog by releasing isoniazid, a prescription drug used to treat tuberculosis.”

Isoniazid is known to damage the nervous systems of animals and cause respiratory failure, and can often prove lethal if ingested.

Chang also says that on May 7, the same evening he was alerted to the alleged poison plot, he saw a man “dressed in white” and carrying an umbrella taking photos outside the front yard of his house.

In a social media post, Chang said that he had immediately phoned the police, and one person was arrested in connection to the alleged plot.

He added: “Animal abusers are the trash of society. I will fight against them to avenge the animals they killed.”

Thankfully, Xiaobai was not impacted in the stressful incident and is now “back at work and he looks really confident”, according to his owner.

The viral dog reportedly learnt to collect bottles after trading them for food when he was a puppy, and has loved doing so ever since.

The habit is a lucrative one, his owner explained, and not just because of Xiaobai’s internet fame.

the owner told CQ News: “Before it became famous, it would earn about a dozen yuan a day from the bottles collected. But now that it’s gone viral, every nearby shop saves bottles for it.

It can earn over 50 yuan a day just by collecting bottles. The income is quite impressive – both from social media videos and bottle collection.”
