Jack Grealish absent from Everton squad again after disciplinary breach

Jack Grealish has been left out of Everton’s squad again following an internal disciplinary breach as the Toffees face Newcastle in the Premier League.

Grealish was not part of the travelling party to Tyneside for Everton’s second meeting with the Magpies in the space of five days, with David Moyes’ side emerging 3-1 victors when the teams clashed in the Carabao Cup at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday.

The 31-year-old winger was absent for that match as punishment for skipping Everton training when he was not authorised to do so.

Grealish, who is in his second spell on loan at Everton, had been in contention to return after missing Everton’s defeat to Arsenal on Saturday, which was put down to illness.

Instead, manager David Moyes left him out of the squad altogether, preferring to name two goalkeepers on the bench for the visit of Matthias Jaissle’s side, and he has opted against including him once again Monday night’s trip to St James’ Park.

It is unconfirmed whether this is down to fitness or if it signifies an extension of Grealish’s punishment.

Moyes made two changes from the team that beat Newcastle last week, with Tyler Dibling and Hayden Hackney – who bagged a goal and an assist – dropping to the bench. Jarrad Branthwaite returns to the side, with Jake O’Brien moving to right-back and Merlin Rohl moving forward, while Harrison Armstrong starts alongside James Garner in midfield.

Grealish, who is in the last season of his contract at Manchester City, rejoined Everton on loan on transfer deadline day and has since made six appearances, failing to score.
