Man United vs Roma LIVE: Champions League score and updates with Michael Carrick on brink

Watching this Manchester United team is like going past a car crash on the motorway. It’s bleak, it’s disturbing, but you can’t stop watching.

In every department, United look lost. Let’s see if Michael Carrick can bring some fight out of his players after the break. I wouldn’t hold your breath, though.

Here’s Richard Jolly inside Old Trafford:

The half-time whistle is met with boos inside Old Trafford. Deeper into the pit of despair Manchester United go.

Roma are in total control through two goals inside the first 20 minutes from Matias Soule and Donyell Malen. United, meanwhile, have been utterly atrocious.

45+2 mins: CLOSE! Soule sets himself and goes for the curler into the top left corner, but it’s just wide. Ever so close to a second for him.

45 mins: SAVE! Lammens gets down well as Malen threatens to make it three, aiming for the far corner.

Two minutes added on. Not entirely sure what Michael Carrick could possibly say to pick his players up here.

44 mins: CHANCE! A first decent opportunity for United is squandered by Fernandes, who spoons over from the pull-back inside the box.

It was a scruffy pass back to the United captain in fairness, and Fernandes is angry that the service wasn’t better.

42 mins: Manchester United have a free-kick in shooting range… maybe they can finally call Vazquez into some sort of action.

Bruno Fernandes steps up and fires into the wall. It comes out to Baleba who then passes it behind his team-mate and out for a throw. That sums up this United side about right.

39 mins: Yoro makes a diving challenge to deny Mora a shot at goal as Roma broke forward after a spell of United possession.

United were in the Roma half but offered absolutely nothing in terms of actual danger to Devis Vazquez’s goal. Vazquez, a reminder, is Roma’s third-choice keeper. He’s been a spectator for nearly 40 minutes.

32 mins: Only the away fans can be heard inside Old Trafford at the moment as they watch their side pop the ball around 10 red mannequins.

There is a lack of energy and movement all-round. No wind under these sails.
