Melania Trump surprised attendees at the White House Congressional Picnic after emerging on the Truman Balcony to deliver what she described as “breaking news”.

Addressing MPs and their families gathered on the South Lawn, the First Lady interrupted the evening’s festivities to announce that the House had passed the Fostering the Future Act.

The legislation seeks to support children in care and improve opportunities for young people transitioning to independence.

“I have breaking news. Today, the House passed the Fostering the Future Act,” Melania told the crowd, prompting cheers from those assembled beneath the White House balcony.

She then turned her attention to the Senate, urging legislators to keep the bill moving forward.

“Senators, we have momentum,” she declared. “Now, it’s your turn to bring the Fostering the Future Act across the finish line.”

The surprise declaration quickly gained traction online, with clips of the moment spreading across social media as supporters praised the First Lady’s advocacy on issues affecting children and families.

Melania has traditionally focused much of her public work on youth welfare and child protection programmes, and this latest legislation marks another high-profile campaign linked to those causes.

The Congressional Picnic, an annual event at the White House, brought together members of Congress from all parties for a night of food, entertainment and speeches hosted by President Donald Trump and the First Lady.
