Woman forced to sleep with eyes open after plastic surgery goes ‘horribly wrong’

A woman who paid over £1,300 for complex eyelid surgery claims to have been left unable to close her eyes or else have them fill with fluid – meaning she has to sleep with them open

A woman claims she has to sleep with her eyes open after they became damaged during a botched cosmetic surgery. The woman, who has been named Wang Li by local media, says her “tear ducts were damaged” during a procedure known as an Asian blepharoplasty, designed to widen or enlarge the eyes.

The alleged rip in her tear ducts means that her eyelids are essentially being filled with fluid at a rate faster than it can be removed, meaning they have started to bulge and even flip in on themselves, according to a post by Wang Li on social media site Weibo.

She wrote: “I can’t close my eyes, and I sleep with my eyes open. My tear ducts are damaged, and tears drip uncontrollably.”

According to various Chinese outlets, Wang Li underwent the Asian blepharoplasty or double eyelid surgery in Meixi Cosmetic Surgery Clinic in Suzhou, eastern China, and paid around 12,000 yuan (£1320).

According to reports, the surgeon who operated on her did not have the appropriate licenses, and the surgery itself lacked the correct business permit.

Having suffered the injury, Wang Li chose to sue the surgeon who operated on her and who, according to a judge, had left her with a serious disability.

Meng Moufang was sentenced to six months of detention for practicing medicine illegally, and was ordered to compensate Wang Li 362,000 yuan and return the surgery fee of 12,000 yuan.

Recently, Wang Li (pseudonym), a woman from Suzhou, received a “Decision Not to Support Supervision Application” from the procuratorate, rejecting her application to supervise the previous judgment.

However, in something of a twist Wang Li claims she was forced to return the compensation payment after an online spat between the surgeon and her sister.

She wrote: “Before the criminal verdict, the other party asked me for a letter of understanding. I signed the agreement and received a total of 850,000 yuan.”

“After Meng Moufang was released on bail, she and my sister-in-law had a public feud online, and my sister-in-law posted about my experience online.”

” Meng Moufang believed that I posted it and sued me for violating the agreement, demanding the return of 400,000 yuan.”

The court also ruled in my favour and ordered me to return 200,000 yuan.”
