Japan’s Mozo Wonder City evacuated as multiple hospitalised with ‘eye and throat pain’

Emergency services have swarmed a shopping centre in Japan on Monday after reports of people experiencing eye irritation and coughing.

Emergency services descended on a shopping centre in Japan on Monday (June 8) following reports of individuals suffering from eye and throat discomfort.

Police stated that at approximately 5:30pm., a security guard at the “Mozo Wonder City” commercial complex in Nishi Ward, Nagoya City, alerted emergency services.

They reported that several people were experiencing eye irritation and coughing. Investigators have noted that numerous individuals complained of discomfort in their eyes and throats, while it was also reported that someone was coughing within an arcade area on the fourth floor.

Authorities confirmed that at least five people have been taken to hospital. Officials, including police and firefighters, are persistently investigating the situation to identify the cause and evaluate any potential hazards.

The location refers to a substantial shopping and entertainment complex situated roughly 500 metres from Kami-Otai Station, making it readily accessible via public transport.

It encompasses a range of facilities such as a cinema, eateries, retail shops, and other businesses, serving as a bustling hub where many people congregate for shopping, dining, and leisure pursuits, reports the Express.
