Police trying to break up major gang activity in New York City have arrested 22 alleged gang members. They were banged up after a string of violent crimes across Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Prosecutors say the suspects were responsible for at least 26 shootings since October 2022, killing one person and injuring more than 20 others, including three innocent bystanders. Detectives have worked to pinpoint the main gang members for years.

Shocking CCTV obtained by the NYPD shows the January 2025 shooting of a 16-year-old boy in an East New York grocery store. Prosecutors say the shooting was being celebrated in a video recorded by the alleged shooter in the getaway car afterwards.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said: “They’re singing and rapping and celebrating the shooting; they had a successful hunt. Four guys in the car, all armed, all celebrating that they think they’ve just killed a 16-year-old boy in the grocery store.”

They arrested a total of 22 men in connection with 26 separate shooting, adding that a massive 56 guns were seized.

“These men, it’s 17 of the 22 have actually pulled the trigger,” Gonzalez said. “Some of those 17 have pulled the trigger on multiple occasions.”

Another of the incidents included a mass shooting at what was supposed to be a Sweet 16 birthday party. In that, six teens were left injured and surveillance footage showed the alleged gang members firing off more than 20 rounds into the crowd.

Gov. Kathy Hochul congratulated polcie for their work: “This is your third major takedown just in a few months, so unbelievable, unbelievable work that’s being done here. And this, the 22 dangerous criminals who’ve committed horrible crimes.”

The district attorney’s office zeroed in on a small group that they say is responsible for 60% of gun violence in the borough.

“And they’re proud of this, see this is the part that may not be understandable to ordinary New Yorkers,” Gonzalez said. “They want to take credit for these shootings. They want that gang to be represented for having taken action against a rival.”

The suspected gang members are charged in a conspiracy indictment that includes murder, attempted murder and criminal weapons possession.
