Flight cancelled after ‘British Airways crew go on vodka bender at £500-a-night resort’

Passengers travelling back to London from Barbados were stunned to discover their flight was not going ahead after the cabin crew reportedly went on a booze bender

A flight had to be cancelled after a British Airways crew reportedly went on a boozy bender at a luxury resort. A steward allegedly had to be taken to his room after collapsing on the floor while a stewardess was reportedly sick in the bar.

The vodka-fuelled night reportedly took place at a lavish honeymooner’s resort on the Caribbean island of Barbados. Guests were said to be livid and began filming the group who claimed to be BA crew, The Sun claims.

Passengers then arrived at Barbados Airport to discover their flight, BA254 back to London on Sunday had been cancelled. The Sun alleges four members of the crew have been suspended following the incident.

A source claimed: “One of the perks of working as flight crew for BA is staying at incredible hotels in far-flung destinations.

“And the team who had flown into Barbados were making the most of their stay at an idyllic retreat where the guests are all made up of honeymooners and families on a trip-of-a-lifetime.

“It’s an immense privilege, and it’s understandable that the group wanted to enjoy themselves.

“But some of this crew behaved in a manner that did not befit British Airways. The vodka and beers kept being poured and some of the team were clearly drunk.”

According to the Sun, the drinking session got underway on Saturday night (July 4), just hours before the crew had been due to operate the flight back to the UK the next day.

Two members of the cabin crew were reportedly taken ill as a result of the bender, and irate airline bosses were allegedly forced to stand the crew down. It meant 336 passengers were left stranded in the capital Bridgetown.

The insider claimed that costs for British Airways could now run into the hundreds of thousands of pounds if the airline is forced to find new accommodation for all future Barbados trips.

The Daily Star contacted British Airways for comment.

In a statement issued to The Sun, the airline said: “We expect the highest standards of our crew, and we are urgently investigating this matter.”
