Antonio Conte would be open to replacing Michael Carrick as Manchester United manager, according to reports.

Carrick’s position at Old Trafford is under scrutiny following a poor start to the season in which United have registered just two wins from nine games.

United sit 13th in the Premier League with one victory in six matches and are already out of the Carabao Cup following a 3-2 defeat at home to Brighton last month.

In the Champions League, United followed up their 4-0 win at home to Sabah FK with a 2-0 defeat away to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

Carrick is also dealing with unrest in the dressing room after Lisandro Martinez openly criticised the club and their summer transfer strategy following the loss to Atletico earlier this week.

Conte, who is out of work after leaving Napoli at the end of last season, is among the contenders to potentially replace Carrick as United boss.

And according to talkSPORT, Conte’s representatives have informed United that he would be interested in taking over at Old Trafford if Carrick departs.

Conte already has extensive experience of managing in England having won the Premier League and the FA Cup in his two seasons at Chelsea.

Conte also left Spurs after 16 months in charge having criticised the club’s culture and called his players ‘selfish’ following a 3-3 draw with Southampton.

After guiding Napoli to winning the Serie A title last year, Conte stepped away from the Italian club in May.

‘It’s been an honour, really special to coach Napoli. It’s been two great seasons, an exceptional experience,’ Conte said.

‘It was my decision, I told the chairman a few weeks ago. Napoli will always be home.’
