Catalonia coach crash horror as 46 people injured with 4 in critical condition

A horror crash on Rambla Ferran in Lleida, Catalonia, Spain has seen at least 11 people taken to hospital after 46 were inured when a coach hit a façade – four have been described as being in a critical condition

Around 46 people have been injured in a horror bus crash on a street in Catalonia, Spain, with multiple rushed to hospital.

The incident occurred on Rambla Ferran in Lleida at around 7:15am this morning (July 1). The coach reportedly had 55 passengers as it was heading from Lleida to La Granja d’Escarp.

The coach reportedly crashed into the façade of the Provincial Council and has resulted in four people being taken to hospital in a critical condition and nine other suffering serious injuries. The rest of those injured are being treated for minor injuries.

According to SEM Generalitat, the Catalonia ambulance service, said 11 units and one medicalised helicopter were deployed to the scene.

In a statement on X, they said: “Traffic accident Lleida. Bus collision on Rambla Ferran. The SEM has activated 11 units, 1 medicalized helicopter, and a team of psychologists and has attended to 46 people.

“Transferred to Arnau de Vilanova hospital to: four affected in critical condition and nine affected in less serious condition

“In addition, there are 33 affected in minor condition (some transferred to healthcare centers and others do not require transfer).”

Images from the scene shows the front section of the coach severely damaged, with the driver’s area appearing to be crushed.

A police cordon is also in place as debris, shattered glass, metal fragments, and parts of the vehicle scattered across the street.

Bombers, the fire and rescue service in Catalonia, said they “have helped evacuate the occupants from the bus while securing the area and have provided support to the health services in the evacuation and care of the injured”.
