A horror bus crash has tragically claimed the lives of eight people, including a nine-month-old baby boy and his father, and injuring 33 others after the vehicle caught fire
A bus crash has seen eight people, including a nine-month-old baby boy and his father, tragically lose their lives after the vehicle caught fire, local media in Turkey reported.
The bus, owned by Pamukkale Tourism, crashed into highway barriers in Denizli province at 1.40am local time today (May 31) while carrying 38 passengers and three staff from Izmir to the Mediterranean city of Antalya, the Demiroren News Agency said.
Some 33 people were injured in the incident. Among the dead were the 50-year-old driver and the father of the infant.
Images of the aftermath of the crash showed the burned-out frame of the bus by the roadside. According to local publications, many of those who lost their lives became trapped at the exit door.
Reports say the eight deceased has to be removed by emergency crews and were tragically all taken to the Denizli Forensic Medicine Institute Group Directorate morgue.
Those 33 injured were taken to hospitals in Denizli and Sarayköy by ambulances and are currently receiving medical treatment. The conditions of those injured is currently unknown.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated but it is believed that the bus driver may have lost control of the vehicle.
Gendarmerie teams also conducted a search of the grassy area along the highway in search for victims but none were found.
Saturday was the final day of Eid al-Adha. The religious festival usually sees a spike in traffic accidents across Turkey as people travel to visit family and take holidays.
