Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Gives Nintendo Switch 2 Players the Full Story and Fresh Ways to Play on August 28

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Release
Bandai Namco has announced August 28, 2026 as the official Elden Ring Tarnished Edition release date for the Nintendo Switch 2. This finally brings one of the most popular action role-playing games of recent years to Nintendo’s hybrid console in full. This version includes both the original Elden Ring and the major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.

In addition to the full campaign and expansion, the Tarnished Edition adds a host of new elements specifically built for this version of the game. You’ll be able to select from a number of new starting classes, which will change the way you fight from the start. You’ll find new weapons scattered across the world, as well as a selection of new armor parts that allow you to completely customize your character’s appearance. You might even give your loyal ghost steed a makeover. Torrent’s look can be customized with various armor sets as you ride it through farms, ruins, and treacherous roads. This allows you to add variety to your exploration without affecting the main game in any way.

  • The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps

Bandai Namco presents the Tarnished Edition as an all-in-one package that includes both the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree, plus all new armor, weapons, and Torrent cosmetic improvements. If you purchase the Tarnished Pack as DLC, you will receive the same updates on other platforms on the same day. People who have already purchased Elden Ring and its expansion on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or PC via Steam can get the new classes, weapons, armor, and horse options separately.

The Tarnished Edition for the Switch 2 will cost around $80, which is roughly the same as purchasing the original game plus expansion on other platforms, making it more of a full collection rather than a premium upgrade. Of course, all of this came at a cost: the Switch 2 version took more time to produce. We saw some bad previews last year, and the game crashed with frame drops when the camera moved swiftly or when you were just strolling about. Plus, button mapping was a touch erratic; the controls were all over the place, and they ruined the timing that makes battle so fun.

Later on, we saw that things had improved dramatically, with the game operating lot smoother whether you were playing on the go or connected to a television. The control changes seem natural, so veteran gamers can jump right in without having to master an entirely new system. With the release date fixed, the Tarnished Edition is ready to launch as the ultimate way to play on Switch 2. People who own it on other platforms will get the new options at the same time, so everyone is on the same page when it comes to new character builds and fully customizable rides over the Lands Between.
