Grok Imagine Delivers First Seven Minutes of Its Odyssey Series

Grok Imagine posted the opening installment of its Odyssey series on Friday evening, a seven-minute AI-generated short created with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker. Elon Musk shared the clip the same night with a simple caption noting the tool behind it. The post invited comments on whether viewers wanted a full technical breakdown of the process.

Musk initially suggested a film rendition of Homer’s epic in July, after publicly criticizing Christopher Nolan’s take on it. He stated that Grok Imagine will release a full-length version by the end of 2026 that would remain true to the original material. Nolan’s film, which debuted over the summer and has become a billion-dollar global success, featured several casting choices that irritated Musk, and he wasn’t hesitant to say so. For the time being, the Grok Imagine project will be released in episodes.

The first episode begins in Ithaca, with Odysseus preparing to ship out. He pulls out a knife and, whoops, slashes himself. Meanwhile, Penelope is attempting to calm him down by describing the journey ahead. She eventually delivers him a small wooden horse and begs him to pass it on to their child Telemachus. As he departs, ships with black sails sail across the gray water, and we see flashbacks of the Greek forces at Troy, as well as memories of the child Telemachus growing up and practicing sword fighting at home. A British bloke with a wonderful deep voice provides some context, but all of the characters speak plain old current English.

When things are quiet, the visuals look like they were pulled directly out of a Hollywood epic, with vast landscapes, worn hands, and a fleet of ships sailing over the ocean that appear to have actual weight to them. The effect changes as soon as the characters begin to move and speak. Their expressions vary slightly from shot to shot, and their delivery appears robotic, with no natural pauses or substance to their words. Because many of the men, including Odysseus, have the same dark-haired, bearded appearance, it might be difficult to tell them apart in group scenes. Penelope’s appearance varies from one cut to the next. various viewers have pointed out various anachronism aspects in the characters’ equipment and attire that aren’t appropriate for the Bronze Age.

The video has already received millions of views on X, with reactions ranging from mild interest in the production values to blunt assessments that the performances feel stiff and the storytelling resembles an extended trailer more than a complete chapter. Grok Imagine has not announced when the following episodes will be released, or whether a single feature film is still in the works. For the time being, this is just a demonstration for the video tools they’ve created, and it’s even accessible in 4K.
