Inflatable slide sealed off as tot, 2, dies seconds after shouting ‘Mummy’

Adelin Florin, 2, called out to his mum before collapsing on an inflatable slide at an annual family festival – emergency services tried desperately to save him

A toddler tragically died on an inflatable slide seconds after shouting “Mummy.” Two-year-old Adelin Florin collapsed at the annual Satu Mare festival in Romania.

He had been happily playing on the inflatable with his sister and another child, sliding down it several times without any problems. As he climbed the steps for another turn, he looked towards his family and shouted “Mummy”.

Suddenly, he collapsed as if “cut down by a scythe”, his distraught parents recounted. Emergency services performed resuscitation efforts at the scene and continued in the ambulance, but the little boy went into cardiorespiratory arrest and could not be saved.

He sadly passed away at the festival in Satu Mare, Romania, around 11pm on Friday night (29 May).

A post-mortem examination revealed that he had a rare, aggressive kidney tumour that had developed quickly and shown no symptoms.

His parents stated that previous medical examinations, including abdominal ultrasounds, had detected nothing unusual.

“He played right until the last moment,” the boy’s father said.

“It could have happened at home, on the road, or in his sleep. It was just a matter of time.”

Following the tragic incident, City Hall suspended all inflatable attractions and children’s rides at the festival and cordoned off the area.

Officials confirmed that the equipment had valid certifications but nonetheless initiated a comprehensive review, as reported by NeedToKnow.

Prosecutors have initiated a culpable homicide investigation to ascertain all the details.

Paediatricians have stated that these types of tumours often show no symptoms and are most prevalent in children aged two to three.

One doctor, Camelia Păun, explained that they are often detected late.

Health professionals recommend annual checks, including blood and urine tests as well as abdominal ultrasounds for young children, to help identify such rare conditions at an earlier stage.
