Insomniac’s Extended Wolverine Gameplay Trailer Brings Brutal Combat and a Clearer Look at Logan’s Mission

Insomniac Extended Wolverine Gameplay
Insomniac Games chose Sony’s most recent State of Play to show an extended gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine. The new footage runs several minutes and gives the clearest sense yet of how the game will feel when it arrives on September 15. Extended gameplay footage puts Logan in the middle of a high-stakes chase after a convoy carrying kidnapped mutants. The Reavers, a cybernetic militia, have taken the captives and plan to hand them over to Bolivar Trask. Logan stalks the group from the shadows before the action turns loud and direct.

Jean Grey emerges early on as a valuable member of the team, using telekinesis to interrupt the enemy’s rhythm and allow Logan to attack with his claws. The two of them work well together to accomplish some really smooth finishes, demonstrating how a little reinforcement may flip the tide in Logan’s favor. Combat happens quickly, with clear choices to be made: keep it quiet and take people out from above, or charge in with claws flashing. The more strikes, blocks, or takedowns you land, the quicker your rage meter fills. Once things get underway, Logan gains access to some quite exciting special abilities, such as a spinning claw attack that sends opponents flying or a charging rush that knocks them out of the path. As you progress through the tiers, the fury meter increases his healing factor, allowing you to take massive damage before being forced to lie low.

Insomniac Extended Wolverine Gameplay
The story revolves around Logan’s return to Team X after three years apart, and we learn that mutants live in fear, keeping their heads down and hoping not to be caught by groups like the Reavers. Jean Grey stands out among the other captured mutants because people look up to her during this trying period. The preview ends with a quick sneer from a figure with long blonde hair, and you don’t have to be a big fan of the comics to figure out who it is.

Insomniac Extended Wolverine Gameplay
Unlike previous Spider-Man games, which let you roam freely around a wide open world, this one is significantly more focused, with tight, story-driven objectives and a series of adrenaline-pumping action sequences. Pre-orders opened as soon as the trailer was revealed, and if you were one of the first to order, you earned a pleasant little bonus: a classic Logan costume with reflective claws, as well as a tiny increase in technique points, albeit this was only for early birds. If you went all out and bought the Digital Deluxe Edition, you received even more, including a host of exclusive costumes and claws to choose from, as well as a lot more technique points.
