Masked wrestling star killed in horror motorbike crash on way to major fight
A promising wrestler has died following a horrific crash that saw his motorbike collide with a lorry, leaving fans around the world devastated at the tragic news
Fans have been left devastated after rising star in the world of Mexican wrestling was killed in a horror motorcycle crash while travelling to a major fight.
Tempo, known to his many fans as “The Master of Time”, was riding his motorbike through the Iztacalco borough of eastern Mexico City on May 29 when he collided with a lorry while passing through a junction. Local reports described the impact as having thrown the wrestler into the back of a van, leaving him fatally injured at the scene.
Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security later said that officers found clothes among the victim’s belongings that appeared to belong to a professional wrestler. Local media subsequently identified the victim as 29-year-old Tempo, whose real name is Tony Cirio, Jr.
The wrestler had reportedly been travelling to a wrestling show at the Mexican Electricians’ Syndicate gym in the Coapa area of southern Mexico City, where he had been scheduled to appear in the main event.
The show had reportedly been due to start at 8.30pm, with Tempo advertised as the headline fighter. He was said to have been carrying his helmet and wrestling gear when the crash happened.
Just minutes before the crash, Tempo had posted a social media story showing himself on the way to the event. His final Instagram post reportedly showed him smiling in his mask with the caption: “Born to stand out, not to fit in.”
Witness accounts cited by local media claimed there had been a suspected road dispute involving another driver shortly before the collision. Some reports alleged the other driver fled the scene after the impact, although authorities said the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
Paramedics and police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed the wrestler had died. The area was later sealed off while forensic teams carried out investigations into the crash.
Tributes poured in from across Mexico’s wrestling community after news of Tempo’s death emerged. Mexican wrestling star Octagon shared a tribute on Instagram and wrote: “It is heart-breaking what happened to Tempo, a young man with a great future in wrestling, a good son and above all a good person.
“I had the pleasure of knowing him because he was a close friend of my son. I hope his death does not go unpunished. Farewell, Tempo.”
Tempo was later mourned by relatives and friends during a wake held at his family home on 30th May.
A separate memorial was also reportedly held in the Iztacalco neighbourhood so fans could grieve and pay their respects.
Organisers said: “Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and entire Lucha Libre community during this difficult time.”
His father, Gerardo Nolasco, thanked supporters for their messages and invited people to come and say goodbye to his son. He had competed in independent wrestling promotions and had been considered one of the sport’s rising prospects since 2018.
