Pattaya hotel fire sees ‘many people trapped’ as Thailand fire crews attempt rescue
A Thailand hotel in Pattaya has been engulfed in flames with “many people trapped” in inside, according to local reports, as fire crews attempt to gain control of the blaze
A major hotel blaze has seen people reportedly trapped inside as the part of the building began to be engulfed by flames.
Fire crews raced to the scene at the Thailand hotel in Pattaya after reports of a fire breaking out on the rooftop area. According to local reports, the fire is at the Sunday JA Plus Hotel (formerly JA Plus Hotel) on Pattaya Third Road in Chonburi Province.
The blaze broke out this evening (May 21) at around 9pm local time (3pm UK time) with fire crews still battling the flames.
According to Facebook page Fire & Rescue Thailand, the stated that “many people were trapped inside the building”. The account also stated that the blaze had since reached the rooms of the hotel.
In a series of updates, the page said: “There was a fire in the building of J.A. Plus, Pattaya Line 3, Chonburi. There were many people trapped in the building. Firefighters were on the way to rescue.”
They later added: “Fire in J.A Plus Hotel, Pattayasai 3, Chonburi. Firefighters are able to put the fire under control. A lot of tourists are being evacuated from the hotel building. Many people are suffocated by smoke.
“Around the rooftop area. Firefighters can partially control the fire. Flames are already in the room.”
There has been no reports of any injuries or fatalities at the time of writing. Post by local media suggest that the fire is being brought under control.
Officials are also yet to confirm how many people were trapped in the building at the time of the blaze.
