Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres wasn’t happy despite breaking a goalscoring record as Sweden drew 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Nations League.

The striker smashed in the opening goal of Friday’s match in Zenica, only for Kerim Alajbegovic to equalise late on, though Graham Potter’s side remain top of Group B4.

It was Gyokeres’ third goal in as many games for his country, contrasting with his struggling form for Arsenal, having played just 29 minutes of Premier League football.

Moreover, the 28-year-old has now become the first player in history to score in six consecutive Nations League matches, a run that stretches back to October 2024.

After netting against Poland earlier this week, he equalled the record which was shared by Slovenia and Manchester United star Benjamin Sesko as well as Serbia and former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

‘It’s a good record and I can continue to beat it,’ Gyokeres said post-match, with Monday’s game against Romania providing him with the chance to go for seven-in-a-row.

But the Gunner was naturally disappointed to not secure all three points, especially after he had another goal disallowed by VAR because of a handball.

‘It’s sour,’ the striker, who has 24 goals in 40 international caps, added.

‘I felt it, but it’s tough when there was nothing that helped a lot – whether the ball touched my hand a little or not. Of course it’s tough, that would have been a nice goal.

‘Of course, it’s hard for us not to win the game and keep a clean sheet. Playing out the game simply.

‘But in terms of play, I think we are doing very well today and we should be happy with that. But it’s heavy and we should have won.’

After Romania vs Sweden, Gyokeres will return to the Emirates, with Arsenal set to take on Leeds United next Saturday.

And the No.14 is in line for a rare start with Kai Havertz likely to miss the game after picking up an injury whilst playing for Germany last week.
